When designing a reverse osmosis system, how we choose the model and specifications of the membrane is crucial for the normal and effective operation of the reverse osmosis system. Otherwise, the operational quality of the reverse osmosis system cannot be guaranteed.

1. Select the membrane model based on the feed water quality.
If the feed water TDS ≤ 1000 ppm, ultra-low pressure membrane elements can be used.
If 1000 ppm ≤ TDS ≤ 3000 ppm, anti-fouling membrane elements can be used.
If TDS ≥ 3000 ppm, brackish water desalination membrane elements can be used.
If feed water TDS ≥ 5000 ppm, seawater desalination membrane elements can be used.
2. Choose membrane elements based on water production (consider whether to choose large or small membranes).
In general, for reverse osmosis equipment with a water production of less than 4 T/H, 4040 membrane elements are mostly used. For a 0.25 ton/hour reverse osmosis device, one 4040 membrane is selected; for 0.5 ton/hour, two membranes; for 1 ton/hour, four membranes, and so on.

Reverse osmosis equipment with a water production capacity of ≥4T/H mostly uses 8040 membrane elements. An 8040 membrane element produces about 1 ton per hour, so a 4-ton-per-hour reverse osmosis device would use 4 8040 membrane elements.
